The Benjamins Do NYC!

alec vanderboom

Wow! I took to five kids to New York City for the first time in 10 years with zero problems. It is the easiest drive to get to the Big Apple from my small town in rural West Virginia. The drive was under five hours and there was no major traffic until we hit the NJ side of Lincoln Tunnel.

My brother and his new wife organized an overnight NYC family trip for us on December 26th. This year my sister is working for the State Department in Kabal, Afghanistan. (Please pray for her. She got bombed at 6:45 AM on Christmas Morning. No injuries, but still scary.) It was a nice distraction for my parents to have a trip over the Christmas holidays, three weeks after my Sister left for her new post.

I can't believe how easily my kids adapted to New York City. Everyone loved it there. Little 1 year old Abigail greeted everyone with a "Hi" from her stroller. We hit Rockfeller Center, the American Girl Store, FAO Schartz and the new Cake Boss Bakery in Time Square today.

This photo is my two daughters right after they met reality star "Lisa" from Cake Boss. She came over to talk to them about the American Girl doll Hannah was holding. They were so excited and all the pasteries at the bakery were so yummy!

(More pictures after I figure out how to download from my new camera.)
